Summer time and the living is…ummm…easy?

Happy 4th of July. It’s a really strange time in the USA. A lot of uncertainty and stress for many of us. But we will enjoy our traditions with our kids today. Hot dogs, potato salad, watermelon, bike parades, and fireworks. It will be a good day.

We have had a nice summer so far. The lack of structure that school provides for the kids, plus two parents with busy jobs, equals a sort of weird and slow burning chaos in which the children are both bored and rushed around and the parents never truly have their cognitive functioning at full capacity. And the house. It’s always in a state of disarray. But other than that we’re fine. It’s all fine. Don’t even worry about my eye twitching.

So far this summer, the kids have tried a few different camps. By far, their favorite was tennis camp. I have been getting out to a few clinics to play, too!

Both girls have progressed really well with swim team, but only Claire actually enjoys it. But yesterday we did a little bit of mountain biking and Claire decisively hated it, while Riley was loving every second. They don’t have to like all the same things. But it would be easier for me if they did!

The other beautiful thing about the summer so far is that both girls have read so many books that we have totally lost count. They have become huge fans of the Magic Treehouse series, plus the Ivy and Bean series, as well as some Amelia Bedelia, and Romona books. Summer reading is the best!

  1. Even though I am fortunate to see your family so frequently, I love reading this blog and seeing life through your lens. ♥️
